Asha Bhosle reveals Lata Mangeshkar was not just mother-figure but also her guru; says they had a healthy competition | Hindi Movie News

Talking about the same, the veteran singerrecalled how once a music director had called her thinking that she had sung one of the songs sung by her sister, Lata Mangeshkar. The singer added that she clarified that it was not me but her sister and excused herself.

That day, she thought that she need to do something different, otherwise she would not be able to make a mark for herself because her sister was already there. Asha added that she used to watch English films and musicals and tried to incorporate some of those elements into her singing.Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar had sang over 80 songs together as well. Opening up about the experience of singing with with her sister, Asha Bhonsle revealed that whenever she had to record with Lata, she had to anticipate how she will sing. She shared that it was both their habits to incorporate a ‘twist’ into the song. So, she had to think what twist she could add and prepare herself for her twist. According to her, it was always a healthy competition.

The veteran singer also talked at length about her sister Lata Mangeshkar and their so-called rivalry. She revealed that Lata Mangeshkar was her ‘guru’, a mother-figure, besides being her sister.
