It took 13 years for Sonakshi Sinha to don a khaki vardi on screen, who in fact made her Bollywood debut as a police officer’s wife. Her recently released Dahaad saw Sonakshi as a cop after she played Rajjo to Dabangg officer Salman Khan in the film’s multiple installments. While she celebrated every bit of the opportunity, Sonakshi says that there was more to the web series, and is glad that the audience could connect to its message.
She says, “The response has been phenomenal. It was just a role that I was waiting for, and it came to me at the right time. I am so thankful to (the creators) Reema (Kagti) andZoya (Akhtar) for thinking of me in this powerful character. You take back from it whatever you see… whatever resonates with you.”
Talking about the reception she got for her performance, Sonakshi says, “There are so many people who came up to me and told me that it is amazing to see you play a lower-caste girl who is fighting for her rights and moving through the hurdles she’s put through. The show also focused on fighting patriarchy and being a woman in a man’s world. The bigger picture was much larger than what we started out with, and I am truly grateful for what it became, with the kind of feedback that I have got.” After a woman in uniform, Sona will soon be seen in an ethnic, glam avatar in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi. The actress will be seen along with Aditi Rao Hydari, Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha among others.
