Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden’s ‘Citadel’ renewed for Season 2; Joe Russo to direct

The spy series ‘Citadel‘, which stars Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra, Lesley Manville and Stanley Tucci, has been renewed for a second season with Joe Russo set to step up as the sole director of the series.
The news comes ahead of the season finale amidst rumours that the OTT giant may just pull the plug on the show.

Executive producers Anthony and Joe Russo said in a statement, “AGBO is thrilled to embark on this next phase of the spyverse with Jen, Vernon, and the entire team at Amazon. The innovative storytelling of Citadel has paved the way for an incredible, worldwide collaboration with creatives in front of and behind the camera”.
The series which debuted last month, follows Richard’s Mason and Priyanka’s Nadia as they embark on a mission that takes them around the world in an effort to stop Manticore, all while contending with a relationship built on secrets, lies, and a dangerous-yet-undying love.

Despite opening to record-breaking numbers for the OTT platform, reports stated that the show failed to create as much buzz during its weekly episode releases.
While season 1 of the show comes to an end, the Italian and Indian instalments will be gearing up for their debut in the months ahead. Varun Dhawan and Samantha are set to play the leads in the Indian instalment that will be helmed by director-duo Raj and DK.
