Kishore Kumar’s biopic can only be made by his family, it’s not upto Ranbir Kapoor, Anurag Basu or Ranveer Singh

There is bad news for those who were hoping to see Ranbir Kapoor finally play Kishore Kumar in a bio-pic that Ranbir and his friend, close creative collaborator Anurag Basu were planning for the last seven years.
The rights to make a film on the legendary singer-actor-director do not reside with Basu.
A source close to the development informs, “Anurag Basu and Ranbir Kapoor cannot make a film on Kishore Kumar. They do not have the copyright. They have repeatedly approached Kishore Kumar’s wife (former actress) Leena Chandavarkar and son (singer) Amit Kumar for the right to make the bio-pic. Amit has refused, pleading that the family will make the film on their beloved Kishore Kumar.”
But the question is, when? So far Kishore Kumar’s family has not made any concrete move towards the purported biopic. Even the recent news that the opportunity may go to Ranveer Singh instead of Ranbir is far-fetched.
A source close to Ranbir argues, “Yeh toh wohi baat ho gayi ke na karenge na karne denge (they won’t do it themselves and they won’t let anyone else do it). Ranbir is craving to play Kishore Kumar. The only way he can do so is if Anurag Basu takes the fictional route. He can change the names and make a pseudo-fictional biopic. But that would be defeating the purpose.”
