Matty Healy brushed off his supposedly contentious remarks regarding Ice Spice earlier in February.
Just under a week ago, Taylor Swift announced that she was going to be collaborating with Ice Spice on a new song called “Karma”. Seems ironic since Matty Healy had earlier laughed at jokes about Ice Spice.
When questioned by The New Yorker if he was provoking admirers by parodying her and her nationality, he replied in an indirect manner clarifying that he wasn’t really bothered because what he says is not to be taken seriously or the most important thing in the world. “A little bit. But it doesn’t actually matter. Nobody is sitting there at night slumped at their computer, and their boyfriend comes over and goes, ‘What’s wrong, darling?’ and they go, ‘It’s just this thing with Matt Healy.’ That doesn’t happen.”
He also stated recently that if anyone was affected by the comments, they were lying. When pointed out that sometimes people get offended over his “humorous statements,” he responded sharply.
He said that people are trying to prove him wrong just to make themselves right in a twisted way. He clarified, “If it does, you’re either deluded or you are, sorry, a liar. You’re either lying that you are hurt, or you’re a bit mental for being hurt. It’s just people going, ‘Oh, there’s a bad thing over there, let me get as close to it as possible so you can see how good I am.’ And I kind of want them to do that, because they’re demonstrating something so base level.”
Matty Healy later apologised to Ice Spice saying, “Sorry if I’ve offended you Ice Spice. I’m sorry.” He also said that he does not want Ice Spice to think he is a mean person because he is now a big admirer of hers.
