Amidst the ongoing wrestlers’ protest in the capital, several Bollywood actors have come under fire for their stoic silence on the matter. Shortly after shocking photos and videos of the athletes being detained went viral, Twitterati were visibly appalled and slammed B-town actors for posting about the new Parliament building, but saying nothing about the protest.
Accusing Bollywood stars of using these wrestlers’ stories to ‘make money’, a Twitter user wrote, “Bollywood gets box office collections by making movies on them but when they actually need help .. can’t see any biggie helping!”

Another addressed a tweet to Aamir Khan saying, “Dear Aamir Khan @AKPPL_Official, you profited off their story with Dangal, isn’t it time to stand up and help the same wrestlers?”
“These Bollywood celebs will otherwise leave no opportunity to pick up middle-class topics to make blockbuster movies or the biopics of our wrestlers or other heroes. Where are these spineless people now? Why is no support coming for the real ground-level Dangal,” another asked in a tweet.
Another said, “Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Parineeti Chopra.. all have run to play roles in movies based on stories of Indian sporting stars. Where are they now? Priyanka had also spoken out for Black Lives Matter.”

Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar, who put out special posts to celebrate the inauguration of the new Parliament building, also drew flak for staying mum about the protests that were going on outised the building.
A ‘disappointed’ fan tweeted, “Shah Rukh Khan tweeted for the new Parliament but no support for our champion wrestlers.”

Both Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar shared a glimpse of the new Parliament House on Twitter and expressed their happiness over its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The PM praised the two for sharing their thoughts on the new building.

Besides this, Twitterati fished out old tweets of the superstars, including Amitabh Bachchan, Varun Dhawan, and Farhan Akhtar among others, congratulating the wrestlers for their ‘historic’ wins, but refusing to speak up for them during the protests.

Following the protests, the Deli Police said in a statement, “A case has been registered against wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and other organisers of the protest. A few wrestlers had come to Jantar Mantar at night to protest, they were denied permission and were sent back.”
Reacting to the FIR, Vinesh Phogat said in a social media post, “Delhi Police takes seven days to file an FIR against Brij Bhushan for sexual harassment but did not take even seven hours to file an FIR against us for carrying out a peaceful protest. Has the country slipped into a dictatorship? The entire world is watching how the government is treating its players. A new history is being written.”
