Actress Sunny Leone recently graced the prestigious Cannes Red Carpet for her latest film ‘Kennedy’, directed by Anurag Kashyap. During her interaction with the press at the festival, she candidly shared her journey from the adult entertainment industry to Bollywood. Despite facing numerous obstacles along the way, Sunny expressed gratitude for the immense love and support she received from Indian audiences.
Sunny Leone first captured the attention of Indian viewers when she participated in the reality show Bigg Boss. It was during her time on the show that filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt entered the house and offered her a role in the film ‘Jism 2’. Reflecting on her Bigg Boss experience, Sunny revealed that while she initially had doubts, the channel was persistent in their desire to have her on the show. She even confided in her then-boyfriend and now husband, Daniel Weber, expressing her apprehension about coming to India due to the hate she had already faced. However, the Bigg Boss team presented a compelling case, even sharing a detailed presentation showcasing the high viewership.
After much deliberation, Sunny Leone agreed to join the show. However, just before her entry, she faced even bigger challenges, including death threats and bomb threats. She also disclosed that the CEO of Viacom, under mounting pressure, had to step down, but the new CEO decided to proceed with her appearance on the show, given that the contract had already been signed.
Sunny also shared that once she entered Bigg Boss, people began to see her as a relatable human being, rather than someone engaging in outrageous behavior. They witnessed her cooking and cleaning on the show, allowing them to connect with the real person behind the entertainment persona of Sunny Leone. Despite her previous background being unknown to many at the time, she garnered a significant number of supporters. However, her journey was far from smooth, as she continued to face unfavourable articles and criticism even after her first film.
