Apoorva Lakhia shares a very close bond with Sanjay Dutt. The director who is currently promoting his web show Crackdown went down the memory lane and recalled the time he was working with Sanjay in Zanjeer. The two of them first worked together in Shootout at Lokhandwala.
Apoorva said that while he was adding finishing touches to Zanjeer, it was also the time when Sanjay Dutt’s final verdict had come out and he was sentenced to a jail term. And just one night before Sanjay’s arrest, he called up Apoorva and asked him to come over as he hadn’t completed the dubbing for Zanjeer.
When Apoorva reached home with his technician, Sanjay had cleared the entire bar area and they spent the next few hours dubbing for the whole film on the phone. Within the next few hours, Sanjay was arrested and sent to Yerwada jail. Apoorva also revealed that Sanjay doesn’t stay much in the country anymore and is based out of Dubai nowadays.
Later, the events of Sanjay’s life were dramatised in Sanju, a biopic by Rajkummar Hirani, which has Ranbir Kapoor playing the titular role.
