There was a time when reports suggested that Vivek Oberoi was sidelined by the industry. Several producers refused to work with him but director Apoorva Lakhia had cast Vivek in his film ‘Shootout At Lokhandwala’ at that point. The film also starred Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan, Tusshar Kapoor among others.
In a recent interview, the director revealed that several producers called and threatened to not work with him if he cast Vivek. But since Apoorva had given a commitment to Vivek, he couldn’t step back. But while everyone else threatened him, it was Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty and Sanjay Gupta who supported Apoorva’s decision. They told the director to not think about the future because if ‘Shootout…’ became a hit, everyone will come to him.
Apoorva further added that what Vivek did was wrong but he was a good actor and he was being cast because of his acting abilities. Just because he may have done something wrong, that doesn’t mean he isn’t talented. Apoorva further felt that Vivek was really professional and he did a fantastic job!
As per reports, Vivek was boycotted from the industry by several people because of his feud with Salman. The actor claimed that Salman had called him 41 times and made threats to his life. Many believe that this statement made a negative impact on Vivek’s image and reputation and he lost out on many opportunities. It also affected his career badly.
In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Vivek had opened up about how his personal life impacted his career. “When my personal life got messed up, I couldn’t keep my eye on the ball. Even if I gave a hit, work wouldn’t follow. ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’ became a huge hit, but I sat at home for a year after that.”
