One of the main reasons why talent fails to grow in Bollywood is the insular life that successful filmmakers lead. No one told Akshay Kumar he needed to grow a real moustache to play Samrat Prithviraj. No one advised Aamir Khan to not remake Lal Singh Chaddha.

Far from identifying the rot and rectifying it, the team of Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus was falling of their chairs with laughter during the entire shooting. Ranveer Singh told his friends Cirkus would be one of the funniest comedies ever.

“They thought Sanjay Mishra was the funniest comic actor since Mehmood. He was allowed to improvise on his dialogues and scenes liberally. Everyone clapped and cheered during the shots. Ranveer would describe his scenes with Sanjay Mishra and Varun Sharma in detail to his friends and he couldn’t stop laughing while narrating scenes. He was convinced Cirkus was a pathbreaking comedy, and that it would be a bigger success than Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal series,” says a filmmaker friend of Ranveer.

He adds, “The problem with Ranveer is his over-enthusiasm. He gets equally excited about every film. When he is working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, his world revolves around him. When he’s working with Karan Johar, there is no better director in the universe. When it’s Rohit Shetty, then Ranveer is singing hosannas for the director. He needs to understand that enthusiasm cannot be a substitute for quality,” says Ranveer’s buddy.
