James Cameron reveals the secret of achieving balance between light and dark in Avatar: The Way of Water | English Movie News

James Cameron, the filmmaker behind the Avatar franchise films, is basking in the glory of the films doing exceptionally well at the box office. Movie goers are finding Avatar: The Way of Water as one of the best films ever made. But, James Cameron says that to achieve the final cut of the sequel was a lot of hard work.
He said in an interview that the 2009 Avatar film had, “The good guys and the bad guys seemingly equally opposed, and then the good guys get crushed and defeated and many of the heroes die.”
To balance things out, Jake Sully, the star of the first film, invokes the forces of nature. However, Cameron revealed, “The second film does not work that way at all.” He describes the battle in it as a rout and the revenge of the Na’vi and the Tulkun. Cameron says, “The real challenge and the real defeat and the thing that must be recovered from, happens after the battle.”

Adds Cameron: “I actually cut about 10 minutes of the movie targeting gunplay action. I wanted to get rid of some of the ugliness, to find a balance between light and dark. You have to have conflict, of course. Violence and action are the same thing, depending on how you look at it. This is the dilemma of every action filmmaker, and I’m known as an action filmmaker.”
