Rohit Shetty‘s big-budget film ‘Cirkus’ starring Ranveer Singh in the lead, was off to a poor start at the box office, earning just under Rs 30 crore in its first week.

The film opened to a low Rs 6.50 crore on day 1 and saw little growth over the weekend, earning just around Rs 20.75 crore on its first weekend. The film continued earning just around Rs 2 crore on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Collections dropped further on Thursday to around Rs 1.75 crore. The seven-day total of the film now stands at an estimated Rs 29.25 crore nett, states a report on boxofficeindia.com.

While the film struggled to cross the Rs 30 crore mark, the Hollywood release ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ zoomed to the 100-crore mark.

According to the report, the film is expected to see another huge drop in collections on day eight, though ticket sales for the evening shows maybe better. If the film fails to rake in over Rs 1 crore nett, trade experts say it will have a tough time making it past the Rs 40 crore nett mark.

The film is expected to earn around Rs 155-160 crores from all sources, including the box office in its lifetime run. Director Rohit Shetty, who also produced the film, will reportedly not be able to cover his fees which range between Rs 30-40 crore.

The worldwide theatrical earnings of ‘Cirkus’ may close at less than Rs 25 crore. The film’s revenue from digital, satellite and music sales is expected to be around Rs 135 crore.
