Karan Johar marked his acting career with a cameo in Aditya Chopra’s blockbuster ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’. The filmmaker essayed the role of Shah Rukh Khan’s friend in this 1995 release.
A few years ago, KJo had spilled the beans on landing the movie and shared the back story about his role in the film. Karan Johar worked as an assistant to Aditya Chopra on ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ and they were shooting extensively for the film in Switzerland.The actor who was supposed to play SRK’s onscreen friend fell ill with malaria in Mumbai and couldn’t travel. Karan went on to reveal that it was Shah Rukh who came up with a solution. The filmmaker said in an interview, “I kept trying to think who could do it, and suddenly, Shah Rukh said, ‘I know who can do this, it’s going to be you’.”
KJo went on to reveal that he initially rejected the role but was secretly excited about it. He added that his mother refused to acknowledge his appearance in DDLJ and that it was a ‘nightmare’ for him. Before ‘DDLJ’ Karan Johar had faced the camera as a child artist in the 1989 show Indradhanush. Over the years, the filmmaker has featured in ‘Luck By Chance’, ‘Shaandaar’ and ‘Bombay Velvet’.
