The Kerala Story going strong at the box office
Controversial film The Kerala Story which highlights the issue of forced religious conversion, followed by recruitment in ISIS is going strong at the box office. The film that had crossed Rs 161 crore yesterday is expected to cross Rs 175 crore at the box office, thus making it the second biggest box office success of the year beating the likes of Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar. The film is only behind Pathaan in terms of box office collection. The film entered the 100 crore club within 10 days of its release despite being made on a modest budget.
Being tax free in many states like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh has also helped the film immensely. It should be noted that the film has been banned in West Bengal to maintain law and order situation in the state. Screenings for the film have begun in Tamil Nadu, but are yet to be resumed in West Bengal.
While the film was initially exclusively distributed in India, the sudden surge in global interest prompted international distributors to approach the filmmakers for further prints. Currently, the makers have also initiated Bharat Yatra and are taking The Kerala Story to all the corners of the country. The film is backed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and directed by Sudipto Sen, with Adah Sharma in the lead role.
