Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy has been selected for a Midnight Screening at Cannes Film Festival 2023. Helmed by Anurag, Kennedy features Rahul Bhat, Sunny Leone and Abhilash Thapliyal. The film revolves around an insomniac ex-cop, long thought to be dead, but still looking for redemption.

While on-screen, Anurag’s movies are dark and sometimes gory, the filmmaker has a ‘complicated relationship’ with violence off-screen.
In a recent interview to a leading website, Anurag said that he has always tried to keep violence inherently internal in most of his movies, barring Gangs of Wasseypur. The filmmaker further said that violence affects him a lot off-screen, as he faints if he sees an accident or blood. The filmmaker also added that he is terrified of attending funerals.
Recently, Anurag posted a quirky message on Instagram calling daughter Aaliyah’s engagement like a curveball that has come right in the middle of the Cannes festival. Sharing a picture on Instagram, the filmmaker wrote – “@cinemakasam is pissed off saying ,”yahan to phone chhod do !!” . Unaware that I am calculating the number of remakes I will have to do to throw a wedding soirée, because my dearest @aaliyahkashyap and her beau , my lovely @shanegregoire threw a total curveball at us in the middle of our @festivaldecannes journey of #Kennedy by announcing their engagement . 🥳🥳🥳”
Coming back to Kennedy, in an interview ahead of the film’s screening, Anurag revealed that the film was called Kennedy Project. He revealed that he first reached out to Chiyaan Vikram for the lead role but he never responded. The filmmaker then asked Rahul Bhat to read the script who was very enthusiastic about it. Anurag immediately offered to cast him saying, “You will have to give it all.”
