The success of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan has opened several ideas of crossovers between different characters of the YRF spy universe. Apart from Salman Khan‘s cameo as Tiger, the film also had references of War, Ek Tha Tiger and Tiger Zinda Hai. While there were reports that Hrithik Roshan‘s character Kabir from War may appear in Pathaan, director Siddharth Anand has now revealed why the idea of crossover could not happen.
In his recent interview, Siddharth said that it was after the success of War that they thought of creating a spy universe. The addition of Pathaan gave a scope of having many more spies in the universe. He said that it was Aditya Chopra who suggested that a universe could be possible.

Talking about getting Hrithik on board for Pathaan, Siddharth told Pinkvilla, “We could have got Hrithik or any other actor on board too, but to have Salman Khan and Shah Rukh in a film doing action has not happened before. I think the last when they were doing action together was in 1996 with Karan Arjun. Fortunately, Adi had the IP of Tiger to do this crossover and the result is fantastic.”
He further added, “Obviously, there was a thought back then, but since we just started amalgamating this universe, it’s too early to bring everyone together. There should be a little thirst of getting this combination, but of course, this crossover will happen.”

There’s no denying that the possibility of crossovers has increased and people are even thinking about Deepika’s Rubai and Katrina’s Zoya to appear together in the sequels or prequels. While writer Shridhar Raghavan has said that he has reading several fan theories about different characters coming together and revealing their backstories, it remains to be seen where the YRF universe will be heading hereafter.
