Virat Kohli started his new year with a stunning century by scoring 113 runs off 87 balls against Sri Lanka in the first ODI on January 10, taking India to a mammoth total on the board. In his new interaction with Suryakumar Yadav, Virat had no qualms in admitting to the fact that he was being unfair to his wife Anushka Sharma during his bad spell in sports.
When Suryakumar asked Virat to reflect on his journey in the last two years when he struggled to put a score runs on the ground, Virat happily shared what was going through his mind during his tough time. He said that he had started getting frustrated and became very cranky and snappy and his bad behaviour had eventually started reflecting, especially on his wife Anushka and other family members.

Virat said that keeping up to people’s expectations and performing every time when you are playing regularly is a very intense process. He added that when your cricket is going well, everything falls into place but as soon as there’s a dip in your form, frustration starts to creep in.

“In my case too, frustration started creeping in. I wanted to play in a certain way, according to the expectations of everyone and mine as well. But cricket was not allowing me to do that and hence I found myself way too far from where my game was. My attachments and desires had totally taken over. And that is when I realised that I can’t be totally away from who I am and I can’t live in denial,” Virat told Suryakumar.

“Because, in my case, it brought me more frustration. I was getting very cranky, very snappy in my space which was not fair on anyone around me – Anushka and closed ones. I think it’s not fair on the people that support you and are with you all the time to keep seeing you in that space. So, I had to take responsibility and put things in perspective,” he added.

There’s no denying that Anushka has often been at the receiving end of criticism every time Virat fails to perform on the cricket ground. However, she is also Virat’s biggest cheerleader and never fails to stand tall against all odds.
