History was created today and it’s indeed a proud moment for India as ‘RRR‘ won the ‘Golden Globe Award’ 2023 for the ‘Best Original Song’ for ‘Naatu Naatu’ composed by MM Keeravani. While it’s now that the composer has got global recognition, he’s got some iconic work if we see his discography.
His body of work consists of a vast array of songs in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi cinema. As far as his work in Hindi is concerned, Keeravani has collaborated several times with Mukesh Bhatt. The producer-composer duo have given us some cult albums like ‘Criminal’, ‘Zakhm’, ‘Saaya’, and some iconic songs like ‘Tum Mile Dil Khile’, ‘Gali Mein Aaj Chand’ amidst more. Hence Mukesh Bhatt was elated to hear this news. Mukesh Bhatt shared with ETimes, “I literally jumped with joy when I heard the news. I am delighted beyond words that a talented genius like MM Kreem is finally getting his to global recognition which I felt was overdue to him. He is a volcano and an ocean of talent. He’s one of the finest composers I have met in my life of a man who is 100 percent heart and only heart. All his compositions come from a very pure source. Music has always been my forte and he gave me one of my all time classics, ‘Tum Mile Dil Khile’ and then ‘Gali Mein Aaj Chand Nikla’. Working with him was such a pleasure.”

Bhatt further expressed that this seems a divine intervention of sort. “I was wondering why he is not getting the respect. He is at par with AR Rahman. Rahman is a genius, but when Rahman got all what he got, I wondered, why didn’t Keeravani get what he deserved. So, I feel this is a divine intervention. It’s God sent now.”
Mukesh Bhatt also recalled his best memories with the composer while he was working with him on ‘Criminal’. He shared, “I had flown down to Chennai with the singers, Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik’ and Indeevar ji (lyricist) and they were all mesmerised by the sheer genius of MM. He’s also a playback singer par excellence so when he sang, Kumar Sanu came and told me, ‘Mukeshji I’m nervous because he sings better than me’. Sanu was actually so honest that he could own it up that Keeravani sang better than him. He was a complete playback singer and Sanu had to work more hard on the song then. When we came back, all through the flight, Alka, Kumar and Indeevar ji were only talking about him.”

Keeravani holds a very special place in Bhatt’s heart. He says he would love to collaborate with him again; he is hungry for melodies coming from Keeravani because it comes in its purest form. “When you meet great people like him, they leave their footprints in your heart. Keeravani ji has a special place in my heart. The amount of respect I have in my heart is unimaginable. I wanted to express my heart out, I’m so glad that a man of his calibre got this global recognition.”

Bhatt further concluded that, “We were a magical team. I’m so proud of him!”
