Jennifer Lopez reveals Ben Affleck planned Las Vegas wedding; says ‘It took the pressure off from the big family wedding’ | English Movie News

The film directed by Jason Moore and co-starring Golden Globe winner Jennifer Coolidge, and rocker Lenny Kravitz, among others, is slated to have a direct-to-digital release on Lionsgate Play in India on 27th January. Ahead of the release, the cast got together for a global press conference, attended by ETimes. There, JLo and Josh spilt the details about their characters, their real-life weddings and more.
When asked about what drew them to the film, leading man Josh Duhamel said, “What I love about the movie and what I think Jason Moore did such a great job on, was that he wasn’t afraid to make it one big romp of a movie. It felt different from anything I’ve done and that’s what I loved about it. He always talked about squeezing in a little lemon on that sugar.”
Jennifer Lopez chimed in agreement saying, “It’s a big romantic comedy, but it’s more of a big romantic-action movie. It’s an adventure, but the core of it, is about these families coming together and my character Darcy and Josh’s character, Tom really figuring out who they are and how and if they can make this marriage work. They start off on different ends of the spectrum of what they want, not just from the wedding, but also from their relationship.”
Both Jen and Josh took the plunge last year. While JLo married Ben Affleck, Josh tied the knot with Audra Mari. When asked about planning their real-life dream weddings, Josh admitted, “I was not involved.”
He explained, “The wedding prep was in Audra’s hands. It was more of a surprise wedding for me… I was working. But she did a great job and the wedding was fantastic.”
JLo, on the other hand, revealed that both her weddings to Ben were a ‘collaboration’ she said. Gushing about her Oscar-winning director husband’s ‘incredible taste’, she said, “Ben has an amazing eye, and incredible taste and I think that is why we ran off to Vegas. It took the pressure off from the big family wedding we were having. But everything we do, we try to do it together. He actually helped out with the big wedding party and he planned the whole Vegas thing.”
Talking about the script of the movie, Lopez shared, “Our couple, Darcy and Tom, have finally made it to the big day at their exotic destination wedding with all their loved ones in attendance, and basically nothing goes to plan. There are a lot of twists and turns and very unexpected things that happen, but that’s what makes the ride so much fun. I just loved the script. There was a wit and a realness in the dialogue in the way Tom and Darcy went back and forth. And I was excited about the idea of doing a romantic action comedy, which is something I hadn’t done before.”
The actress also spoke about her dress in the film. Calling the gown “a character in the film,” she explained the subtle meaning behind her many looks saying, “It represented what she was going through. It started out where she was super uncomfortable, it was the biggest, most cumbersome, big and beautiful, but it wasn’t her at all. As she went on, she was more honest with who she was and began pealing off the layers and becoming more herself and stepping into her power. I think that happened with the dress as well. Pieces began coming off and she became this badass, she’s taken off the hair extensions and has a gun.”
Written by Mark Hammer, the film captures an extravagant destination wedding on a tropical island being hijacked by criminals, in the midst of it all the couple discovers why they fell in love with each other in the first place.
