The trailer of the psychological drama “Qala” was recently released on Twitter by Netflix. The movie, starring Tripti Dimri and debutante Babil Khan is set in the late 1930s and 40s, and is the story of a young, eponymous playback singer and her torrid past. In the trailer, we can see Tripti’s character struggle with pressure to perform her best, stressed with the added expectations of her mother, even as another singer Jagan threatens to upend her life. As the story progresses, Tripti’s character seems to be getting more and more disturbed as a voice in her head keeps echoing that something is wrong.

Taking to their official Twitter handle, Netflix India wrote, “The innocence in her voice is matched only by the pain in her eyes ♥️ Prepare yourselves to experience the rollercoaster of emotions that is Qala, coming on December 1st, only on Netflix”.

Netizens loved the frame of the trailer and many commented that it reminded them of a bygone area. One user wrote, “what a stunning trailer! Every frame, every emotion – can’t wait for this! Most especially – the music, lyrics, dialogues!”. Another user wrote, “Stellar casting + Tripti-Anvitta combo + Amit Trivedi musical… Too many exciting things…”.

Many users loved the music of the movie and requested Netflix to release all the sound tracks. One user wrote, “As soon as possible, release all soundtracks”, while another user said, “Only if i get to wear a sherwani and play a lyricist in the 1940s film industry.” Adding to that, one user commented, “Qala song ‘papihe ke Prem nishaniya’ Is just ❤️. Please upload full song Please Please Please #qala #netflixindia”.

Qala marks the debut of late Irrfan Khan’s son Babil Khan. The quiet actor has often spoken about how it won’t be easy living up to his father’s legacy, but he will still give it his best shot.
