When it comes to films in India, South cinema continues to dominate the scene. It was quite the case at the opening ceremony of IFFI 2022 in Goa as well. The South siren of ‘Godfather’ movie fame, Catherine Tresa stole the show with her performance, dancing to all top Tamil and Telugu songs including Saami (Pushpa) and Aa Ante Amalapuram (Arya). She made the anchors Aparshakti Khurrana and Mrunal Thakur dance to those numbers too.

Mrunal who co-hosted the show with Aparshakti, talked about how South has welcomed her with open arms. She mentioned that at first, she only wanted to work in Hindi films, but after Sita Ramam (her epic love saga with Dulquer Salmaan) and the love, she got for her character of Sita, now she is working in regional films too.

Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Singh Thakur said during one of his conversations, “The Australian foreign minister told me that he watched RRR. So, there’s nothing regional. If your content is good it’s appreciated globally.”

Last year it was Hema Malini who was honoured with the Film Personality of the Year and this year it was Chiranjeevi. The award is likely to be given at the closing ceremony of IFFI 2022.
